On the weighting of the mean-absolute-deviation cost minimization model. Abstract The mean-absolute-deviation cost minimization model, which aims to minimize sum of the mean value and the absolute deviation (AD) of the total cost multiplied by a given non-negative weighting, is one of a number of typical robust optimization models. This paper first uses a straightforward example to show that the solution obtained by this model with some weightings is not actually an optimal decision. This example also illustrates that the mean-absolute-deviation cost minimization model cannot be regarded as the conventional weighted transformation of the relevant multiobjective minimization model aiming to simultaneously minimize the mean value and AD. This paper further proves that the optimal solution obtained by the mean-absolute-deviation cost minimization model with the weighting not exceeding 0.5 will not be absolutely dominated by any other solution. This tight upper bound provides a useful guideline for practical applications. (2013). On the weighting of the mean-absolute-deviation cost minimization model. Robust uncapacitated multiple allocation hub location problem under demand uncertainty: minimization of cost deviations

The hub location–allocation problem under uncertainty is a real-world task arising in the areas such as public and freight transportation and telecommunication systems. In many applications, the demand is considered as inexact because of the forecasting inaccuracies or human’s unpredictability. This study addresses the robust uncapacitated multiple allocation hub location problem with a set of ...

MULTIPERIOD CREDIBILITIC MEAN SEMI-ABSOLUTE DEVIATION PORTFOLIO SELECTION

In this paper, we discuss a multiperiod portfolio selection problem with fuzzy returns. We present a new credibilitic multiperiod mean semi- absolute deviation portfolio selection with some real factors including transaction costs, borrowing constraints, entropy constraints, threshold constraints and risk control. In the proposed model, we quantify the investment return and risk associated with...

A Robust Scenario Based Approach in an Uncertain Condition Applied to Location-Allocation Distribution Centers Problem

The paper discusses the location-allocation model for logistic networks and distribution centers through considering uncertain parameters. In real-world cases, demands and transshipment costs change over the period of the time. This may lead to large cost deviation in total cost. Scenario based robust optimization approaches are proposed where occurrence probability of each scenario is not know...

The Analysis of Iran Cotton Producers’ Risk Degree Based on Non-Linear Mean-Standard Deviation Model

As regards decreasing cotton cultivation in Iran during these years, the degree of risk taken by a cotton cultivator in the agricultural part is important. The studies showed that the cotton crop yield during the past years did not have enough growth and the cotton cost product in the period of study cotton production costs, has increased. In this paper, the risk orientation of cotton cultivato...

MEAN-ABSOLUTE DEVIATION PORTFOLIO SELECTION MODEL WITH FUZZY RETURNS

In this paper, we consider portfolio selection problem in which security returns are regarded as fuzzy variables rather than random variables. We first introduce a concept of absolute deviation for fuzzy variables and prove some useful properties, which imply that absolute deviation may be used to measure risk well. Then we propose two mean-absolute deviation models by defining risk as abs...
